Silko Dog: A Story of Comfort, Innovation, and Canine Wellbeing

The story of Silko Dog begins with a shared passion for dogs’ wellbeing and a recognized need for better, coat-friendly dog gear.

The founding members of Silko Dog—experienced dog gear professional and founder of Kana Collection, Kana, and business expert and dog enthusiast, Piia Järvenpää—joined forces to fulfill the wish of many, especially owners of fluffy dogs, to finally bring Kana’s coat-friendly collars and harnesses to a wider market. For years, Kana had been sewing made to measure Silko-lined gear by hand in her small atelier. But of course, one person alone could not possibly sew for everyone who needed them! Too often, she had to say “sold out.” Inspired by this demand, and driven by love for dogs and their owners, Kana and Piia founded Silko Dog.

Kana’s nearly two-decade-long experience in designing and making dog gear, along with her deep understanding of canine ergonomics and coat characteristics, combined with Piia’s strong operational expertise, provided a solid foundation for Silko Dog.

At the heart of the products lies the trademark-registered Silko fabric. This unique, smooth-surfaced material was developed specifically to prevent matting and chafing of the coat. It is ideal for all dogs—from long-haired, coarse-coated, and fluffy breeds to even hairless ones. The fabric is also gentle on sensitive skin. Silko fabric is renowned for its durability, water repellency, and easy care, ensuring that the gear is both long-lasting and practical.

While Silko products had previously been available only in limited quantities, the launch of Silko Dog finally makes these innovative designs more accessible to dog owners. The collection includes ergonomic Silko Pinsu Y-harnesses; practical, half-check Nolla collars; and unique, fully lined 360° Silko half-check collars. Each product is carefully designed to ensure the dog’s comfort, safety, and freedom of movement.
