Founder & Creative Director Kana

Dog gear designer Kana co-founded Silko Dog with her friend Piia in 2025.

Kana has built her career in the dog gear industry as an artisan and designer through her own brands, Kanashop and Kana Collection, since 2009. From the very beginning, her main source of inspiration has been her own rescue dogs, Annie and Helios, as well as Princess—the dog who started it all and holds a special place in her heart.

Kanashop and Kana Collection are known for their stylish, safe, and functional gear, with a special emphasis on comfortable padding and high-visibility reflectors. Kana understands canine ergonomics and is driven by a passion for flawless quality, which is invaluable to Silko Dog’s product development.

A versatile personality, Kana is also known in Finland as a musical artist, TV and radio host, event MC, and a dedicated advocate for animal welfare. She is also a co-founder of Dog Force One, an organization dedicated to helping abandoned animals, primarily in Spain.

Silko Dog’s Signature Feature: Silko® Fabric

At the heart of the gear’s functionality is the trademarked Silko fabric. This unique, smooth, and lightweight material effectively prevents fur from tangling and chafing. It is ideal for all dogs—from long-haired, rough-coated, and fluffy breeds to short-haired and hairless dogs. The fabric is also gentle and comfortable on sensitive skin. Silko fabric is durable, water-repellent, and easy to care for. It doesn't absorb dirt, making it easier to tell when the gear actually needs washing. Silko-lined products can be machine-washed in a laundry bag or washed by hand, and fresh dirt can often simply be wiped off. Silko Dog gear is designed to be both practical and long-lasting.

While Silko-fabric products were previously available in limited quantities through Kana’s handmade boutique, the launch of Silko Dog has finally brought these innovative items to a wider audience of dog owners. The collection includes practical, slip-on NOLLA collars, unique, fully-lined 360° SILKO half-choke collars, and ergonomic, customizable Silko PINSU Y-harnesses. Every product is thoughtfully designed to ensure your dog’s comfort, safety, and effortless movement.

The Power of Friendship: At the Heart of Silko Dog

Kana and Piia’s friendship traces back to 2007, when a shared passion for fancy rats first brought them together. From this unique beginning grew a lasting bond powered by a mutual love for animals and their welfare. This shared dedication also led them to co-found the non-profit organization Dog Force One, where they worked side by side for years to help abandoned animals and animal rescuers.

Several years before Silko Dog came to life, Kana began planning a new production line, driven by continuous requests from customers for her signature, escape-proof Pinsu Y-harnesses. She shared her vision with Piia, and the spark was lit: what if they joined forces to bring a whole line of coat-friendly dog gear to production together?

And that’s exactly what they did. Kana sourced a high-quality manufacturing partner, crafted the original prototypes, and created the production guidelines, while Piia managed the administration and business operations. Silko Dog launched with great success, officially debuting its first collections at the World Dog Show in Helsinki in August 2025.

After an impactful first year running the company together, Piia transitioned to new ventures, leaving Kana to carry the Silko Dog story forward.
